Modern Traveller Refines its Route

Modern Traveller launched on March 12th, 2023, my 45th birthday. It had unofficially launched as sub brand of the Modern Mississauga Media umbrella in 2015. I was ready to launch it on its own in March of 2020 but well, you know.
The initial goal was to be a travel resource for various global destinations along with supplemental articles on tips and advice.
A lot has changed in the past 20 months. AI has risen and changing how information is crafted and consumed. Google has released their “Helpful Content Updates” and in the process, has made it very difficult for those in the travel industry to be found. The battle for clicks and visibility has become elevated through various social media algorithm changes.
It’s frustrating. It’s at times, defeating. It’s disheartening. However, most importantly, it’s an opportunity with plenty of runway to get the proverbial airplane off the ground with a new flight path.
What does this mean for Modern Traveller?
When I launched, the strategy was to be a broad, general travel resource and for what it’s worth, it worked somewhat well. There was better out there to be had, though. And that, for what I do and what I feel is right for the brand, is to change the trajectory of Modern Traveller.
I’ve decided recalibrate the compass and put a stronger emphasis on Canadian content. The majority of my travels are within Canada and there’s still so much of my home I haven’t experienced yet. Plus, the majority of content this year has been Canadian focussed so as cliche as it may sound, my focus kinda found me. The most read articles this year have been Canadian content as well.
Either way, there’s a new path forward and I’m here and ready for it.
Refining the overall vision for Modern Traveller sees a sharper focus toward smarter storytelling. It’s going to be focussed on more than destinations and itineraries. Actively listening to and sharing the stories of Canadians will be a key cog in the wheel.
This was inspired earlier this summer where over two days, I stumbled upon strangers in Newfoundland, struck up meaningful conversations and those were some of the best moments.
Yes, the destinations of all sizes are still an important part of the Modern Traveller framework; there’s more to a home than four walls, however.
Social media bios have already been tweaked, as has the into paragraph on the website.
There’ll still be aspects that include destinations outside of Canada, however. If the story is compelling and engaging, it’ll be worth publishing.
The world of creation and creativity is changing and I truly do see this as an opportunity to evolve.
I get to to make changes that will contribute to my growth both as a person and an entrepreneur.
From navigating the search for authenticity in an artificially enhanced world to maintaining a steady stream of relevant, helpful and hopefully inspiring content and everything in-between.
But one thing at a time, right?
I’m not here to reinvent the wheels. Rather, I’m here to provide a well designed, long-standing and trustworthy rim for it to ride upon.
I thank you for the support, whether you’ve been here since day one or it’s your first time here; I appreciate you.
I hope to see and hear from you soon and hopefully often.
With excitement for our travels ahead,
Jay
