Wonderful Winter Adventures in the Marvellous Mont Tremblant Region

When most people think of winter in the Mont Tremblant region, sensational skiing comes to mind, which is expected as it hosts the famous Tremblant Resort. It’s got a massive mountain, over 100 ski runs and attracts hundreds of thousands of  visitors annually. Tremblant pedestrian village is a hotbed of activity and excitement, with dining options aplenty and so much to soak in.  However, there’s more to this lovely part of the Laurentians that’s waiting for you to explore and create memories in. Much, much more, in fact.
My partner, Steph, owner of RoadTripper.ca and I took a road trip from Toronto in early February to see just how much there is to do both in and around Tremblant Resort.
From fast-paced adventure to slow travel day trips and plenty in between, the Mont Tremblant region in the Laurentians has several special things for you in winter.

WHAT ACTIVITIES CAN I DO IN MONT TREMBLANT REGION?

Skiing
Distance from Tremblant RESORT: On-site

I used to be an excellent skier and carved the slopes several times each winter from 2011 to 2019. Then that thing happened in 2020, which brought it to a halt. Getting back on skis after six years brought a tinge of apprehension. Thankfully, my instructor, Denis Primeau started myself and fellow travel writer, Pete Heck of Hecktic Travels, on the bunny hill and after a single, steady and safe descent, we were ready to ascend.
Smartly, you can either take the chairlift to the halfway point of the mountain and ski through green-labeled learning zones, La Passe and Nansen Bas in this case. Moreover, you can take the panoramic gondola to the top of the mountain and be warmly welcomed by more learning zones, La Crête and Nansen Haut, before reconnecting with the two aforementioned zones.

A card-sized ski pass works best if your jacket has an arm pocket and you simply tap your arm/pass against a sensor, the gates to the lifts open, and you’re all set.
The mountain has a whopping 645-meter vertical drop and 102 ski trails spread across four distinctive sides all linked to the 360° summit serviced by 14 lifts, complete with double back diamond runs.
Groomers reset the hill perfectly each night as there’s no night skiing, ensuring it’s ready for the thousands of daily visitors.
Did I fall? Nope. Did I quickly rediscover my “ski legs” and have an incredible time swooshing and whooshing down the mountain? Absolutely!

Plus, the equipment rental shop is steps from the hotel I stayed at, Sommet des Neiges and the rental process was simple.
This majestic mountain and delightful destination has a piece of my heart as my first time skiing here certainly won’t be my last.

Guided ATV Side-By-Side Adventure
Distance from Tremblant RESORt: 30 Minutes

As professional automotive journalists who have driven nearly two million kilometres in our lives, we were giddy for this. Our chariot was a Kawasaki Teryx 800cc that seats four and is winter-ready with clear flaps all around to help keep us warmer. If you can drive a car, you can certainly drive this. Across the 15 km journey in Labelle and its surroundings that takes up approximately 90 minutes, you’ll venture into the northern edge of Mont-Tremblant National Park with twists and turns aplenty. It does get a touch loud while in motion, which is to be expected for these machines, which didn’t bother us.  While the maximum speed of the machines is 50 km/h, we didn’t need or want to exceed 30 km/h. Similar to driving a vehicle, safety is paramount and keeping a steady pace is the best way to enjoy this. En route is a warming station with an old-school wood-burning stove so you can warm up and stretch your legs before you continue adventuring.

Helmets, three-point seatbelts, a roll cage,  instructions on how to operate the machine and a helpful, friendly and knowledgeable  guide are included. Chunky tires and plenty of power ensure you’re always in motion.
Book your tour to experience a different side of Tremblant and the Laurentians from a rare vantage point.
Our measure of speed here? Smiles per hour!

Snowshoe Hike at Mont-Tremblant National Park
Distance from Tremblant RESORT: 30 Minutes

The serenity found in the woods on a winter morning after a fresh snowfall is magical, and Quebec’s oldest park is an ideal venue. Being led by Mimi from D-Tour outdoor experiences, our snowshoe hike was a wonderful way to enjoy the outdoors in this beautiful part of Lac-Supérieur. Rentals and lunch were included in package, and there’s a wide network of trails to choose from. We did a three-kilometre round trip in the La Diable sector in Lac-Supérieur, stopping to admire the wildlife from afar.
Upon arrival, there’s a welcome centre/cafe/retail shop with free wi-fi and a fireplace as you either start or end your journey.
Smartly, a portion of the centre is always open in case some adventurers need a warm, safe place with wi-fi.

There’s a large 3D map of the park for an enhanced visual aspect as you plan your trek.
Cross-country skiers and hikers share the trails in winter, with the common goal being to absorb the outdoors and create marvellous moments in nature.

Farouche Tremblant
Distance from TremblanT RESORT: 25 Minutes

Also in Lac-Supérieur and on the same road you take to reach Mont-Tremblant National Park is where you’ll find Farouche Tremblant. They describe themselves as an “eco-luxury refuge”and a “four-season outdoor centre.” Located on the shores of the Devil’s River, seven A-frame cabins adorn the property and the dining room, which they call the Farm Refreshment Bar, doubles as a cafe and retail store, with plenty of locally made and sourced products.
There is a hot tub on location but you can only access it if you’re spending the night.
(In summer, a Nordic spa pass is available for purchase if you wish to experience it without staying overnight.)
E-Fatbikes, snowshoes and ski-hoks are available to further explore the area.

Sentier des cimes Laurentides - Treetop Walk
Distance from Tremblant resort: 25 Minutes

Located in in Mont-Blanc and at a height of 40 meters (131.2 feet,) Sentier des cimes provides spectacular views of the region. The spiral path itself is positioned at an accessible six-degree incline, making it easy to reach the top. The treetop wooden walkway is also accessible, complete with information stations and a bird feeder along the way. Once you’ve reached the top, there’s a suspended net that you can walk across or lay in for a unique experience.
The total round-trip walk is 2.7 km and you can go at your own pace.

The main house is an old fish farm built in the 1930’s and is your entry point to the path. Plus, there’s an elevator to bring you up to the pathway, further enhancing their commitment to accessibility.
Additionally, there’s snowshoeing and hiking trails and gives access to the P’tit Train du Nord linear park.
There are events held at the top, complete with mountains as the backdrop.
There’s a restaurant on-site and make sure your smartphone has space for all the beautiful pictures you’ll take.

Outdoor Skating Rink
Distance from Tremblant resort: On-site

A fire pit, outdoor skating rink and free rentals are quite the trilogy and best of all, it’s all in one place in the village.
Slide and glide here and move to the music as an additional way to enjoy winter in the Laurentians.

WHAT ARE THE BEST RESTAURANTS IN TREMBLANT RESORT?

La Forge Bistro-Bar & Grill

With the bistro on the main floor and a steakhouse on the second floor, La Forge certainly is diverse. There’s just enough variety in the menu to make it approachable but not overwhelming. Plus, there are gluten-free options and a smart wine list.

La Savoie

If fondue is your thing, then this is your place. Pick from cheese, oil or broth fondues, which come with a delicious spread of meats and vegetables, pair it with one of their many wines and you’re set for divine dining.
If you’re a cheese fan, definitely get the raclette and for dessert, the chocolate fondue with fruit is oh-so good!

Bullseye - Saloon & Grillades

Everywhere I travel, I try to get chicken wings. In the pedestrian village, Bullseye is where it’s at. The service, food and atmosphere score high and the Western decor adds a nice flair.
In addition to the burgers, pastas and sandwiches, Steph’s gluten-free meal was the chicken skewers, rice and salad, all prepared perfectly.

Make it Yourself
Our room at the Sommet des Neiges had a kitchenette, so we stocked up from the grocery store in the pedestrian village and made our own breakfasts and a couple of lunches.
There’s a surprisingly large variety for a smaller location.

Our Chariot - The 2025 Toyota Corolla Hybrid All-Wheel Drive

With hybrid cars increasing in popularity and nearly every manufacturer offering one, we opted to take a 2025 Toyota Corolla Hybrid All-Wheel Drive for our Mont Tremblant road trip.
With fuel consumption at a lowly 5.3 L/100 km, the gas station stops were minimal.
A full suite of active safety systems, large infotainment screen, premium audio system, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, plus wireless smartphone charging and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto round out the standard features on our top-trip XSE model.

We did our journey in early February and coincidentally followed a severe snow storm all the way from Toronto. There were trucks, cars and busses that slid into ditches on our route and thankfully, we had zero issues and the extra couple of hours of driving weren’t an issue.
A premium set of winter tires worked exceptionally well with the Corolla’s electronic all-wheel drive system. As Steph said, “it’s like the car was on rails the whole trip; that’s how secure it felt!”
Even in the backroads of Mont-Tremblant region, where snow was much more prevalent and road conditions not as clear as on the primary roads, the Corolla was such a reliable road trip companion.

WHAT HOTELSHOULD I STAY IN AT MONT TREMBLANT?

In the heart of the pedestrian village is Sommet des Neiges and it’s where we called home for our Tremblant trip. Our room had a kitchenette with a stove, microwave, fridge and dishwasher and room for both Steph and I to be in there at the same time.
The big comfy couch and gas fireplace made the living room extra special, along with a balcony. The bathroom had a shower stall and a tub and our King-sized bed was one of the most comfortable we’ve slept in in our decades of travelling.
Want more? Of course you do! The service was spectacular, the underground parking means no cleaning snow off your car, the tall, on-site lockers are perfect for ski and snowboard storage and the best part is that it’s literally steps away from the ski/snowboard rental location.
It’s so close I was able to get a picture of both doors in one shot!
And that means it’s a minute away from the ski lifts and a short walk to everything in the pedestrian village.
