Embracing the Great Outdoors in Thunder Bay, Ontario
Thunder Bay is truly an underrated Canadian destination. I’ve lived my entire life in Ontario, and only in my 46th year did I visit this magical part of Northern Ontario.
One of the most popular attractions in Thunder Bay is hiking at Sleeping Giant Provincial Park. You know, the one where it takes all day and is nearly 25 km in length to the Top of the Giant. And yes, I did it. Slowly but surely. There are other shorter trails but since I was there, I figured I should do it.
Other must-do and must-experience attractions include the Eagle Canyon Suspension Bridge, the Terry Fox Monument, Fort Williams Historic Park, Ouimet Canyon, Kakabeka Falls and sailing on Lake Superior.
There’s an impressive food scene in Thunder Bay, complete with several gluten-free options and for lodging, The Courthouse Hotel is, well, a revamped courthouse with historic elements throughout.
To start my three dazzling days in Thunder Bay, it’s a short plane ride from Toronto and you’ll have to rent a car to experience everything I did. Thunder Bay is much bigger than I thought and it makes for a splendid road trip adventure either alone, with friends or family.
