Cambridge, Ontario sits about halfway along the length of the Grand River; against that serene backdrop lies a historic venue with a rich legacy. The Cambridge Mill invites patrons to indulge in a Sunday Brunch that transcends the ordinary in an idyllic location. Steeped in French culinary traditions, this gastronomic affair unfolds within the historic walls of a venue that has witnessed a rich tapestry of transformations since its original incarnation as the Dickson Mill in 1844. The landmark was ultimately restored and re-imagined as the Cambridge Mill restaurant in 2011.
Drawing on 40 acres of organic farmland during the farming season, the dynamic menu evolves with the seasons, featuring a bounty of peppers, squash, chilis, apples, and more. The allure of Cambridge Mill's Sunday Brunch lies not only in its location but also the meticulously curated selection of cuisine—an extravagant affair offering a hot and cold buffet that caters to a wide range of preferences. We noted that special attention was paid to accommodating various dietary needs and allergies to ensure a satisfying experience for everyone.
Beginning with beverages, the features at Cambridge Mill are Mimosas and Caesars – in our opinion, the ideal accompaniments to the hearty brunch! If that’s not your thing, they also have a selection of fresh juice, tea, and well-brewed coffee along with a well-stocked bar.
The hot buffet boasts standard brunch fare like the delightful Eggs Benedict, alongside more signature selections that go beyond convention, such as Roasted Brussels Sprouts, a savoury revelation even for those not inclined towards vegetables. The Prime Rib, crowned as the best the rotating carving station has to offer, is a succulent masterpiece that underscores the finesse of the kitchen. The carving station also offers lamb, ham, and salmon.
On the cold side, appealing directly to seafood aficionados, the offerings unravel a maritime marvel. The large Raw Bar features different tuna creations and freshly shucked oysters. The Crepe station adds a touch of interactive flair, allowing patrons to customize their next plate. The dessert selection, featuring items like Lemon Meringue, Sorbet, and Raspberry Delights, offers a sweet conclusion to the brunch affair.
Service is a key component of any memorable dining experience, and at Cambridge Mill, our server, Lara, contributed to the seamless flow of the brunch, ensuring our needs were met with grace and efficiency. Executive Chef Austin's expertise shines through in every dish, demonstrating a commitment to excellence that elevates the overall dining experience.
The pricing at $73 per person may seem high, but the expansive selection and quality of offerings serve to justify the cost, especially for a special Sunday in a throwback to mid-century indulgence. For those seeking a different dining experience, À La Carte options are available from Wednesday to Saturday. A Prix Fixe menu called the “Heron Hour” is available from Wednesday-Friday, 4 P.M. to 6 P.M., with two courses at $45 per person and three courses at $55 per person. The captivating location is also a popular spot for private and corporate events.
The riverside setting provides a breathtaking backdrop, transforming a leisurely brunch into a scenic escape. The historic ambiance of the location adds a layer of nostalgia. The venue seamlessly marries history, breathtaking views, and a commitment to quality cuisine made with fresh, seasonal ingredients. An expansive buffet, an eye for dietary needs, and a high level of professional service will leave you feeling fulfilled. Cambridge Mill’s elevated Sunday Brunch stands out in its category.
