Learn About Quebec's Famously Frosty Hôtel de Glace

Quebec’s world-famous Hôtel de Glace (also referred to as the Ice Hotel) is a marvel of engineering and and truly one of Canada’s most popular attractions.
I was fortunate to spend the night there in February 2020 and then revisit again in 2024.

1. How many rooms are in the 2025 Hôtel de Glace?

2. How many themed versus regular rooms are there in 2025?
Instead of "standard" rooms for 2025, this year all rooms have a little something special in it. There are 10 "regular" suites and 20 "themed" suites.
3. How many tonnes of snow and ice were used?
Over 35,000 tons of snow was used to create the majestic Hôtel de Glace.
The snow was churned several times so the very dense and wet snow became hard enough to sustain the structure.
Snow that has fallen from the sky cannot be used as it is too dry and airy.
4. How many kilometres of wires/cables were used for the 2025 Hôtel de Glace?
Around 12 kilometres.
5. How many artists and builders worked on creating Hôtel de Glace in 2025?
Approximately 30 workers are involved in the construction and over 15 sculptors worked together to furnish and decorate the ice hotel.
6. How many ice glasses will be created for the ice bar?
Approximately 50,000.

A staggering 53,000 square feet, which makes it the largest to date.

The 2025 edition celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Hôtel de Glace. A tribute will be paid to the beauty and strength of our planet, to the reconciliation of our nation, and to the artists and craftsmen who have kept the history of this work of art alive.

10. How thick are the floors?
Between four and 12 feet, depending which section
The walls are 1.2 to 2.4 m thick at the base, and the top of the vaults measures 75 cm. The largest vaults in the Hôtel de Glace are over 6 m high.

Nearly 50.

So far, four.
13. How cold does a room get inside the Hôtel de Glace?
Ambient room temperature between 3° C and - 5° C (27° F and 23° F), regardless of outdoor temperature.
